About Pet Merge
Pet Merge is a board-based merge game where position matters for space management but not for merge eligibility. If two cells contain the same pet tier, you can combine them regardless of distance.
A successful merge removes the first pet and upgrades the second by one internal tier. The HUD displays that tier as Level = tier + 1, while scoring uses 2 raised to the internal tier. Add Pet places another low-tier pet into a random empty cell.
How to Play Pet Merge
1Select one pet on the 5Ã5 board.
2Select any other pet with the same tier; adjacency is not required.
3The destination pet upgrades by one tier, the source cell becomes empty and score is added.
4Press Add Pet when you want another low-tier pet placed into a random empty cell.
5Use Reset to clear the board and restart with three new pets.
Pet Merge Rules
- Only pets with exactly the same internal tier can merge.
- Matching pets do not need to be adjacent.
- A merge raises the destination pet by one internal tier and clears the source cell.
- Displayed Level equals internal tier + 1; merge score equals 2 raised to the new internal tier.
- Add Pet requires at least one empty cell and places the new pet randomly.
- A full board blocks Add Pet but does not automatically end the run.

Objective
Combine equal pets into higher levels on a 5Ã5 board, build the highest pet level you can and keep enough empty spaces to add new pets.
Round End
There is no automatic game-over state. If all 25 cells are full, Add Pet is blocked and the game tells you to merge pets to free a slot; Reset starts a fresh board.
- The board has 25 cells, and equal pets can merge even when they are not adjacent.
- A merge removes the selected source pet and raises the destination pet by one internal tier.
- The Add Pet button places a new low-tier pet in one random empty cell.
- New pets are currently generated only from internal tiers 0, 1 or 2.
- The best score is saved in localStorage. The current board, score and highest pet level reset when the page or run is reset.
Tips & Strategies
- Because matching pets can merge from anywhere, organize mentally by tier rather than physical adjacency.
- Do not press Add Pet automatically after every merge; keeping empty cells reduces random-placement pressure.
- Higher-tier merges award exponentially larger scores, so chains that create another equal pair can be valuable.
- When the board is full, scan for duplicate tiers before using Reset; a merge may still free space.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do pets need to be next to each other in Pet Merge?
No. Any two pets with the same tier can merge, even if they are in different parts of the 5Ã5 board.
How is Pet Merge score calculated?
After a merge, the destination internal tier increases by 1. Score added is 2 raised to that internal tier. The HUD displays Level as tier + 1, so reaching displayed Level 2 adds 2 points, Level 3 adds 4, and Level 4 adds 8.
What does Add Pet do?
Add Pet chooses one random empty cell and puts a new low-tier pet there. It cannot add a pet when all 25 cells are occupied.
Is a full board game over in Pet Merge?
No. A full board only blocks Add Pet. You can still merge duplicate tiers to free space, or press Reset.
Does Pet Merge save progress?
It saves the best score in localStorage, but the current board and pet levels are not persisted.
