About Tap Tower
Tap Tower is a timing-based stacking game where each new block moves horizontally above the tower. Your tap freezes the block in place, and only the part that overlaps the previous layer survives. A slightly late or early drop therefore makes every later placement harder.
The game rewards precision directly. If the new block lands within 5 pixels of the previous block's position, it counts as a perfect drop, keeps the full width and awards 2 points instead of 1. The movement speed also increases with score, so a tall tower demands increasingly accurate timing.
How to Play Tap Tower
1Watch the moving block travel across the top of the tower.
2Tap, click, or press Space when the moving block overlaps the block below.
3Aim for near-perfect alignment to keep the full block width and earn 2 points.
4Keep stacking as the blocks move faster; the run ends when you miss completely or the remaining block becomes too narrow.
Tap Tower Rules
- A successful non-perfect overlap adds 1 point.
- A drop within 5 pixels of the previous block is perfect, keeps full width and adds 2 points.
- Any overhanging part is cut away after a non-perfect drop.
- The movement speed is calculated as 2.5 + score à 0.15 for each new block.
- A complete miss or a remaining width below 8 pixels ends the run.
Tap Tower Scoring
| Action | Points | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Successful overlap | +1 | The next block keeps only the portion that overlaps the block below. |
| Perfect drop | +2 | Landing within 5 pixels of the previous block keeps the full width. |
Tap Tower Game Mechanics
Objective
Drop each moving block onto the tower, preserve as much overlap as possible, and keep stacking without missing.
Round End
The run ends if a block completely misses the tower or if the remaining overlap becomes narrower than 8 pixels.
- A non-perfect drop trims the new block to the exact horizontal overlap with the block below.
- Perfect alignment is detected when the horizontal position differs by less than 5 pixels, awarding 2 points and preserving full width.
- Block speed starts at 2.5 and increases by 0.15 for every point of score.
- When the tower reaches the upper part of the canvas, placed blocks scroll downward so the stack can continue.
- The highest score is saved in localStorage under the current browser profile.
Tips & Strategies
- Use the guide edges of the moving block to judge when both sides line up with the tower below instead of watching only the center.
- Protect width early. A small cut on a wide block is recoverable, but repeated cuts compound and quickly leave less room for the next drop.
- Perfect drops are worth pursuing because they both score twice as much and prevent the tower from shrinking.
- As the score rises, shorten the time you spend correcting your aim; the block speed increases by 0.15 per point.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you score in Tap Tower?
A normal successful overlap gives 1 point. A near-perfect drop within 5 pixels of the previous block gives 2 points.
What counts as a perfect drop in Tap Tower?
The game treats a placement as perfect when the new block's horizontal position is less than 5 pixels away from the previous block. A perfect drop keeps the full width.
Why do the blocks get narrower in Tap Tower?
After a non-perfect placement, only the horizontal area that overlaps the block below remains. The overhanging portion is removed.
When does a Tap Tower run end?
The run ends if the moving block misses the tower completely or if the remaining block width falls below 8 pixels.
Does Tap Tower save a best score?
Yes. When you set a higher score, the game saves it in localStorage in the current browser.
